Mina POMZ-2 – anti-personnel fragmentation mine of circular destruction.
During the Great Patriotic War, mines of this type were one of the most common examples of mine weapons in the Red Army. POMZ-2s were most widely used during the period when the Red Army fought defensive battles from 1941 to 1943 inclusive. The mine could be installed with one or two branches of a wire extension connected to the fuse pin. The length of a single stretch could reach 5 meters, double – 8 meters.
In winter, with a snow cover of more than 15 cm, the pegs from the mine installation kit were frozen into the packed snow. The mine was triggered when the wire was touched, which, in turn, pulled the pin out of the fuse.
